I really hate when people say, "But I didn't mean to be inconsiderate," or "But I wasn't trying to be an asshole." Nobody intends to be inconsiderate, and very few people go out of their way to be assholes. The question is, were you trying to be considerate? If the answer is no, then just recognize that you were being inconsiderate, apologize, and move on.
