I still like birthdays.

Today is my 23rd birthday. A couple of weeks ago, my friend Jonny told me that his 23rd birthday was his first depressing birthday, because by age 23 you are past your peak. But I don't mind turning 23. If I had fantasies about becoming an actress or an athlete or something along those lines, I might mind. But I want to write, and I feel like my prime writing years are still a long ways off. As long as I am still learning and growing and experiencing new things, I hope and assume that I will become more articulate and thoughtful and expressive, and my writing will continue to improve. So at this point, I still like birthdays, and I am happy to be another year older and wiser.

And of course, I'm still young enough to enjoy presents and partying. So happy birthday to me!
